Fort Lauderdale Beach
Florida

Fort Lauderdale Beach Florida seems to be the only stretch of beach in Broward County where the Atlantic Ocean is fully visible as you drive on A1A. The high-rise hotels are all on the west side of the road giving a clear and splendid view of the sea.

In 1960, the movie entitled Where The Boys Are highlighted Fort Lauderdale Beach as the center of the famous (or infamous) yearly American collegiate party ritual known as Spring Break.

By the 1980s however, the city had become weary of its dubious claim to vacation fame and made a huge effort to change its image.

Lucky for us, Fort Lauderdale had already gone through several years of major and multimillion dollar makeovers and welcoming chic travelers and families from all over the world.

Seven miles of sand and water await families planning to spend quality beach time in Fort Lauderdale Beach. If you need a quiet spot to read, a place to shop, a playground for the children, water activities or beach view restaurants, Fort Lauderdale Beach has it all!

Fort Lauderdale Beach has FOUR main areas:

Fort Lauderdale Beach
North Area

Located on A1A from Oakland Park Boulevard heading south until NE 20th Street along A1A. Nestled in a residential area, parking is pretty limited. More on-street meter parking can be found in the shopping plaza on the intersection of Oakland Park Boulevard and A1A.

This shopping plaza is called the Galt Ocean Village Shops. There you will find a few bars and restaurants and hair salons. A Walgreens drugstore is located here as well as one of our favorite pizza places called Pizza Rustica.

Amenities:

  • On-street meter parking
  • Showers
  • Shops and restaurants close by on A1A and Oakland Park Boulevard

Fort Lauderdale Beach
Hugh Taylor Birch State Park Area

The park spans from about NE 18th Street all the way south to East Sunrise Boulevard. You won’t really see the park from A1A or the beach except for the thick sea grape trees poking above its walls in one section. Entrance to the park is right on East Sunrise Boulevard. You can access the beach from inside the park via a tunnel that goes underneath A1A.

Amenities:

  • On-street meter parking
  • Showers
  • Lifeguards

Fort Lauderdale Beach
Central Area

This is where all the action is! This Fort Lauderdale Beach area is located on A1A from East Sunrise Boulevard all the way to Las Olas Boulevard. Enjoy great people watching, strolling, rollerblading, biking or jogging along the famous Wave Wall. There’s also a cute wooden children’s playground near the corner of Sebastian Street right on the beach.

Many upscale hotels such as the Atlantic, W, the Hilton and the Ritz Carlton are located along this Central Area stretch.

There are also lots of shops, restaurants, bars along this area. The Gallery at Beach Place can be found here. This is a three-story open building that houses beach-themed stores, restaurants, fun bars and other types of businesses.

Amenities:

  • On-street meter parking
  • Showers
  • Lifeguards
  • Shopping
  • Restaurants and bars
  • Luxury and mid-priced hotels
  • Small children’s playground on the beach

Fort Lauderdale Beach
South Beach Park Area

Located on A1A between just after Las Olas Boulevard to Holiday Drive. Suddenly things become quiet and slower paced here. South Beach Park has a very large on-street meter parking lot that’s directly accessible to the beach (this lot does get very full when national holiday dates come along).

This is a great place to have a beach barbeque. Several picnic tables are placed under the pine trees. There is also a large children’s playground, a basketball court and fitness stations.

A concession stand rents out water sports equipment such as kayaks and boogie boards just across from the Oasis Café. The Cat44 Catamaran Club also meets here on Sundays for general fun and sailing.

Amenities:

  • Large on-street meter parking lot
  • Lifeguards
  • Some shopping and restaurants nearby
  • Large children’s playground on the beach
  • Picnic area
  • Barbeque grills
  • Basketball court
  • Fitness stations
  • Showers

There is plenty of room for everyone on the Fort Lauderdale Beach. No matter what your beach personality is, there is bound to be a perfect spot here for you and your family!
