Deerfield Beach, Florida

This was our first stop and what a nice surprise Deerfield Beach was.

I found this to be the beach with the most active people out and about. Serious bikers whizzed by us in groups on Ocean Drive, looking like they were training for the next Tour de France. We watched surfers braving the waves next to the pier, and joggers taking their morning run right by the ocean.

We accessed the beach through one of the side streets that lead towards the ocean and found meters on Ocean Way, a one-way street going southbound. Parking meters accept coins (quarters, dimes, or nickels). There is a small parking lot with meters on North Beach Pavillion on 21st Avenue but opted for this instead because it's more convenient.

The boarwalk is the pedestrian walkway just next to the road, dotted with covered pavillons with picnic tables and the occasional shower for beachgoers to wash off salty water and sand.

One hop over and we were on the beach and walking next to the Atlantic. There's something lovely about walking on the beach in the morning. No large crowds, the sun just beginning to warm the day, the scene had this fresh feeling.

We visited the International Fishing Pier right next to Kelly's Ocean Grille (there was already a long line for coffee just before 8:00 a.m.). The fee to get onto the pier is $1.00 if sightseeing only and $4.00 for those who are fishing.

We mostly watched the people fishing on the pier. I wanted to get a closer look but I was afraid that I was getting in the way of everyone. Also, being smacked on the face with a freshly-caught fish was a very real possibility indeed!

Time was running out for us, the meter's almost expired. Another look at this new beach we found then we headed on to our next beach destination.
